DeVoe Invited to Family Law Inns

I was recently invited to become a member in the Central Florida Family Law Inns of Court. Members of the Inns include attorneys, judges, magistrates, and professors that have a special focus in family law. Membership in the Inns is by invitation, and to me it is a great honor to be invited to be a member in the Central Florida chapter. The Inns is known for its in-depth seminars on current family law topics, both local and state. The Inns offers great opportunities for networking, mentoring, education and professional camaraderie. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Central Florida Family Law Inns of Court.

DeVoe Law Makes Top 20 at Corporate 5K

Once a year, the Track Shack and IOA sponsor the Corporate 5K in downtown Orlando. There is usually a massive turnout and this year was no exception. Over 18,000 people participated in the 2014 Corporate 5K. I represented DeVoe Law Firm and placed in the top 20 in the Male CEO category. It was a fantastic time and a lot of money was raised for charity. Kudos to all the participants and props to the volunteers!

DeVoe Law Earns 2014 Service Award

I am pleased to have received the community service award from The Florida Supreme Court and The Florida Bar for 2013. I participate in Teen Court which is a diversion program offered in juvenile court. Children who are accused of minor crimes by the State Attorney’s Office may be referred to this program if they meet the eligibility criteria. Qualifying cases are taken off the trial docket and are resolved outside the normal judicial process. Children in these cases go through a trial that is conducted by their peers. The children must comply with any sanctions that are imposed, which often include community service and participation in various interventions. Participating children are obligated to serve in a jury in future teen court cases and pass sentence on their peer defendants. The State Attorney will dismiss the juvenile delinquency cases for children who successfully complete the program and the juvenile records stay clean. The program is credited with substantially reducing recidivism and has been a huge success in Orange County.

I am honored to have been invited to serve on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Orange County Bar Association. The Family Law Section has a large membership of local attorneys that have a common interest in family law. The Executive Committee of the Family Law Section is well-regarded for the quality continuing education that it makes available to both its members and to non-member local attorneys. Judges and other professionals who are experts in their fields frequently speak at the Family Law Section monthly meetings. The Family Law Section meetings have been a great way to keep up with hot topics and changes in the law. It’s an honor to be part of such a thriving and active committee.
