Rep. Grayson Not Taking Care of Family during Divorce, Wife Says

When people say that their divorce is “messy,” they generally mean it in the metaphorical sense. For Florida Rep. Alan Grayson, however, the term messy might just apply in both the metaphorical and literal senses.

Alan Grayson’s wife, Lolita Grayson, is claiming that the congressman is being negligent in maintaining the house she shares with 4 of their children, and as such, it is quite literally falling apart. She mentions broken windows, leaks in the roof, and as a result of those two, a significant mold problem.

She goes on to say that she is financially dependent on him, and that he is intentionally cutting her off, forcing her and their children to suffer.

According to Alan Grayson’s attorney, though, the charges are untrue and unjust. He states that the congressman is currently paying more than $10,000 in the maintenance of the house (including mortgage, utilities, and household expenses), child support for the children, and even college tuition for their one adult child. He says “if she is a poor housekeeper, that’s her issue, not his. For her to slant it in such a way that he is not providing his fair share is wrong and untrue.”

This is merely the latest issue to arise in a rather storied contentious divorce. The first problem came about in March, when a restraining order was filed by Lolita against Alan, in which she accused him of violently shoving her against a door. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office dropped the case after video taken by an aide showed the much larger congressman being pushed around by his wife instead.

The second major problem arose in April, and is still being investigated. In April, it came to Alan Grayson’s attention that his wife’s previous divorce may not have been finalized when the two of them got married. Lolita denies the charges, but if true, it would mean that her marriage to the congressman was never valid. There is a formal hearing scheduled to get to the bottom of the charges.

The spotlight on Florida divorce is, for the moment, focused on the Grayson’s. It is unknown how everything will unfold, but the story has been rather intense so far.
